It’s been a while since my last post on here as I now have separate blogs for my hobbies. Thought I would do an eye update as they are still pretty crappy.
Saw my eye doctor and rheumatologist yesterday, had an orbital floor steroid injection in the right eye. Have a swollen and black eye appearing this morning but the scleritis pain is easing already so that’s really good.
The Rhumy noted that I have failed Rituximab. Azathioprine, prednisone and methotrexate (I’m still on the MTX but the sides are awful, I take it on Friday then the weekend is a write off). The next step is a cyclophosphamide infusion. This is worrying me a little because it much more hard core than anything else I have tried and you can lose your hair even at low doses so I don’t really know how I feel about that. I know that we have to try everything we can because nothing has worked so far and I am in chronic pain, some days the pain is so great I just lay there moaning to myself. Still it’s a big step taking such a strong chemo drug.
My vision is really variable as I have more than one problem – keratoconus, scleritis and severe corneal neovascularisation. Some days I can hardly see at all and other days my vision is pretty clear. At the moment I have not much vision at all in the left eye as the inflammation has made the cornea hazy. At my eye check yesterday I was just counting fingers, couldn’t read the letters even through the pin hole. This will clear pretty soon with the eye drops but it makes for such a hard life when you have to get up for work every morning.
I can’t even enjoy my colouring much at the moment the one thing that is keeping me sane right now is reading on my kindle, I adore reading and escaping into a good book. I can’t read normal books but on my kindle I can have a lovely big text and manage to read, even though I only get one sentence on a page and it gives my thumb a workout changing the page every 2 seconds lol
Sorry for any typos, can’t see too well at the moment!
If you are interested in my hobbies of adult colouring and reading you can catch me over here:
Thanks for reading and catch up soon!
I have been reading a really great series of books by Joy Ellis. I have only recently found her books by browsing through Amazon and I am so glad that I did, they are a great read.
I have been lucky enough to read her last two on Net Galley in exchange for a review; actually I am reading her current one Killer on The Fens right now and I’m really enjoying it. This book is currently 95 Cents on the Kindle store so it is well worth spending a Dollar to give this author a go.
The series is getting better as the books go on the characters are developing and forging relationships and as you get to know them the more you like them. The storylines are interesting and keep me engaged right through to the end of the book.
If you enjoy a mystery thriller I can recommend this author, all 4 have been a great read.
I saw this quote on Facebook this morning and liked it. The world sure would be a better place for it!
Very true, I adore reading and getting sucked into a book. The feeling totally consumes you and transports you to a different place and time. I love how you can sit for hours engrossed in a book and it feels like minutes instead of hours!
As my eyesight gets worse I find it harder and harder to read. I adore reading so it’s really difficult for me.
I did read on my tablet but when you doze off and it whacks you on the nose it hurts and the phone is just a bit small.
I got a new gadget at the weekend the Kindle Paperwhite…. I love it! I have it loaded up with all of my books and I have been reading for hours at a time without getting eye strain.
It’s really quite gorgeous and amazing! I’m currently reading Blood Secrets by Gretna Mulrooney, very good book I’m really enjoying it.
Yep this is me, especially the bit about the reading list never getting any smaller and the comment stating the book was better than the movie.
Haven’t been reading too much lately due to vision problems but I am still “collecting” books. Currently have 17 in my Google Play library and 15 in my Kindle library.
I like to read on my lunch break but have been having difficulty seeing without a magnifying glass but I figured out that if I signed into Google Chrome and downloaded the Play Books app I can read my book at lunchtime on the PC’s big screen. Very happy about that, it even syncs so that when I open the book on my tablet it opens up at the right page ☺
Got to be happy with that!
Happy reading fellow bookworms 😀
I have been in a lot of pain this week and it’s making me feel cranky. I’m over it and want it to go away.
Bipolar bear is definately trying to knock my door down, can’t let him do that so I am turning to my weapon of choice books! Reading is so hard with chronic eye pain but seriously it’s the only way I can get through my days. I lose myself in a good book and the world feels right again. Some how when I am transported in to a fictional characters life the pain and depression seems to fade away a little. I get a feeling of serenity.
I’m doing OK on my goodreads chalenge for 2015 I’m at # 76 of 100.
I found this quote and really liked it, I have no idea who drew it but it’s beautifully done.
I have an awesome selection of books to read in my e-library but I have a problem. I just don’t fancy any of them. I really want to read a book but nothing is grabbing me and I don’t know what to do.
What will I do on my lunch break if I don’t read?
I’m so surprised I am having this problem as I usually love diving into a murder mystery thriller. Maybe it’s because I’m hanging out for the new Tess Gerritsen and Michael Connelly novels due out on the 22nd. I don’t know maybe I need a change of genre?
Anyone got any good read suggestions?
I have some great books sitting in my ebook shelf ready to read. Can’t wait to get into some of these books. As you can tell I am totally in to the thriller/murder mystery genre.
What do you have on your book shelf?
Was doing my usual last night, running through the Amazon upcoming releases list and came up with my reads for the back half of the year. I do this regularly to make sure that I don’t miss any new releases from my favourite authors.
As you can see I love a thriller and almost exclusively read this genre.
Still have quite a few that I haven’t read yet, I have been a little slow of late due to the bad eye situation. I currently have 17 on my Google play books shelf and 10 on my Kindle bookshelf. I certainly won’t be short of reading material for the rest of the year!
Note to myself ….. must remember that the Murder House by James Patterson is due out 28th September but he is also releasing it in five parts as below:-
Part 1 – 1/9
Part 2 -7/9
Part 3 – 14/9
Part 4 – 21/9
Part 5 – 24/9
I love books!
